Background

Dr Eimer leads the aluminium Additive Manufacturing research activities in the Welding and Additive Manufacturing Centre. She investigates the process and material development of the Wire and Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) process. Part of the program focuses on low technology readiness level projects funded by Horizon 2020 or the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). Industry funding also allows the aluminium research programme to mature the technology further: the team's capability to manufacture representative components in the University laboratory is one of the great strengths of the centre.

Dr Eimer was also the Co-chair of the SWAG合集 Early Career Researcher Network from 2022 to 2025, delivering events for the community and promoting an inclusive research culture that nurtures the next generation of researchers and academics.

Dr Eimer joined Cranfield in 2015 as a visiting student funded by Constelium. She started a PhD that year focused on aluminium Wire and Arc Additive Manufacturing. At the end of her PhD, she started a postdoc mainly funded via an EU project on aluminium lithium alloys for WAAM and industry projects and integrated the academic team of the Welding and Additive Manufcaturing Centre as a Senior research fellow in 2022.

Before Cranfield, she was based in the company research centre and a production unit in France. She aimed to support the set-up and tuning of a new spray quenching machine designed for the heat treatment of structural components for aircraft wings.

Current activities

Dr Eimer leads the aluminium Additive Manufacturing research activities and coordinates the in-situ mechanical work programme in the Welding and Additive Manufacturing Centre.

Her current activities focus on aluminium WAAM for space application, with the development of high-productivity processes, in-situ mechanical work and robotic machining.
